parent: Lake trout on the fly

Re: Lake trout on the fly by scott on Sun, Oct 29

The lakers and the other salmonoids can be just about anywhere (in depth). A lot of people troll for them at 8 to 15 feet, but catch mostly browns. As far as location, people have luck off dropoffs ad there's a group that fishes from shore every day at taughannock point.

I have trolled (with spinning rig) for lakers and browns myself in years past and caught many nice ones up to about 6 pounds. I'd like to try casting with my flyrod, but i doubt if one would catch many. Let me know if you have any luck and what kind of rig you have.

I would use an orange or a white streamer, size four.

good luck
