New to Cooperstown/ oneonta area by Steve p on Fri, Feb 26
I have been doing some research on the area but there is minimal information it seems. What are some of the better streams in the area? I am close to otego creek right above laurens, and have fished butternut creek which is also close by. I read on the dec site that there were naturally reproducing trout in these streams. Does anyone have some first hand knowledge in the area? I was also thinking of fishing the beginning of the susquehanna in the area just below cooperstown, but was not sure what the main species were in that stretch. I was hoping smallmouths would be in the area.
I appreciate any comments

|You are in reasonable driving time of some good trout fishing. West Canada Creek from just north of Herkimer to Trenton Falls is premier trout water. Your close to Oriskany Creek and that offers some fine fishing as well for brown trout. Also, Steele Creek along route 51 south of Ilion NY holds a nice population of wild rainbows. Small stream and challenging to fish, but worth it.
Some years ago, the was a stream just outside Cooperstown called Oak Creek. Fishing was not too bad in that stream but I haven't fished in 40 years.
