Fishing date

12-30-09

Fishing time

2:00 - 4:00

Weather conditions

The air temperature started at 28 degrees and lost 2 by the time I finished. Overcast and little wind.

Water conditions

The water was at a balmy 32 degrees, the water flow normal for winter, and clear enough to see through.

Insect activity

Bugs opted to remain in the water.

Fish hooked

Fish seemed unimpressed with the warm up from single digits the day before, I got nothing.

Fly pattern used

bead head soft hackle, switched to black bodied bead headed GRHE, both size 14, and after losing the latter switched to a size 16 pheasant tail with split shot to slow it down.

Comments

I wound up fishing in the village because none of the pulloffs would have let my car out once I got it in there (I tested one and nearly got trapped !) The rest of the creek looked absolutely stunning as did the falls themselves, and the visual feast is one of the great draws to fish this time of the year, too bad I simply drove by all this. Beware of warming days and *large* sheets of ice that break off the edge buildup, one of these suckers nearly knocked me over (tho' more from being caught unawares). I had fished three days previous about 45 minutes longer than Jerry did and wound up skunked that day too. He showed me a picture of the 13 incher a couple days previous he got tho', which tells me I simply need to redouble my efforts for the winter, them fish got some nice colors to 'em this time of year! (*laughs*)
